RACLT Builds an Affordable “Energy Star” Home in June

Local Non-Profit Constructs a Home and Prepares Families for Ownership. 

The Rockingham Area Community Land Trust, in conjunction with NeighborWorks^® organizations around the country, is making a special effort this year to spread the word about the housing organization’s mission and activities. 
 

During the week of June 2^nd through June 9, 2007,  Rockingham Area Community Land Trust is celebrating National NeighborWorks^® Week.  RACLT-sponsored events include ”Build a House in a Weekend” at Beechwood Lane, Springfield, June 2^nd, a free Homebuyers Workshop on June 4^th & 5^th in Springfield and informational displays at local businesses. 
 

Highlighting the celebration, RACLT and community volunteers will be finishing the construction of an energy efficient, single family home in Springfield, Vermont. Energy efficiency will be achieved using an “Energy Star” rated heat recovery ventilation system, CFL lighting, insulation and a high efficiency propane boiler heating system. Volunteers of all skill levels are encouraged to attend. Participants can choose from activities ranging from painting, landscaping and light carpentry. BBQ food items and beverages will be provided. The event will be held on Saturday, June 2^nd, from 7:30AM-4:00PM (Rain Date of June 9^th). Located on Beechwood Lane, Springfield, the single family home can be purchased at an affordable price through RACLT’s NeighborWorks^® HomeOwnership Center of Southeastern Vermont. 
 

The Homebuyer’s Workshop on June 4^th and 5^th is offered free-of-charge as part of the NeighborWorks week celebration.  The NeighborWorks^® HomeOwnership Center of Southeastern Vermont workshop provides information on purchasing a home, managing money, acquiring a mortgage, and maintaining your home. All participants receive a comprehensive home-buying manual and personal counseling from RACLT’s staff of nationally certified housing counselors. Space is limited and requires pre-registration. Through the entire week of June 2^nd, information about RACLT and the NeighborWorks^® HomeOwnership Center of Southeastern Vermont will be on display at Chittenden Bank branches in Springfield and Bellows Falls. RACLT encourages visitors at each location to enter a drawing for a chance to win a free homeownership workshop certificate, valued at $50. RACLT office hours are 8:00AM-5:00PM Monday-Friday.
